GERMANY - Another Filipino who made a remarkable performance in the international arena, Michael Christian Martinez of the Philippines placed 7th overall at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy, the final qualifying event for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Among the 34 men from all across the world, Michael Christian Martinez, 16 years old from Parañaque, Philippines placed 7th overall last September 28 in Oberstdorf, Germany and secured a spot at the skating sport event of the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia, the spot is the first for the country in history of the Winter Olympics.
The Philippines is one of the countries who qualified in the Skating Sport Event and some of Michael Martinez' competition will be from Australia, Israel, Romania and Ukraine. At the Nebelhorn Trophy 2013, Nobunari Oda of Japan won the gold medal, while Jason Brown of USA took home the silver and Jeremy Ten of Canada for the brown medal.
The 2014 Winter Olympics or the 22nd edition will be held from February 7 to 24, 2014 in Sochi, Russia. The Figure Skating Events will be held at the Iceberg Skating Palace, also in Sochi.
